Mauricio Pochettino was boosted by the return to Cobham of his England stars Conor Gallagher and Cole Palmer on Wednesday.

The head coach congratulated our newest Three Lions debutant Palmer (pictured above and below).

The 21-year-old only received a call-up on the Monday after his star turn against his former club Manchester City. He then came off the bench in both of England’s European Championship qualifiers: the win against Malta and the draw away to North Macedonia.

It was straight back out to training with his club team-mates for Cole, who will hope to continue his rich vein of form and, in the process, try to nail down a spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the Euros.

We have taken a closer look at the impact Palmer has had since breaking into the first team at Chelsea at the start of last month. The stats highlight what a key role he is having wherever Pochettino asks to play him.

He was joined by his new international team-mate Gallagher, who is also enjoying an excellent campaign under Pochettino.

Gallagher’s involvement during the international window was limited to the first 45 minutes against Malta, so the Academy graduate should be raring to go when we travel to St James’ Park on Saturday to face Newcastle United.

The other international to return to action at Cobham today was goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic. He was part of the Serbia squad that secured their place at Euro 2024 with a draw against Bulgaria.

Somewhat surprisingly, considering they have qualified for three World Cups (as Serbia), it will be their first appearance at a European Championship in their current guise.

Still to return to Cobham are those who represented their country last night: Axel Disasi, Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, Nicolas Jackson, and Noni Madueke.

On a fresh winter’s morning at our Surrey training base, Christopher Nkunku clearly enjoyed continuing his rehabilitation work out on the grass.

We will find out later this week if the French forward is ready to return to competitive action on Saturday – both Pochettino and Nkunku hoped that might be the case prior to the international window.
